Bow Screw Glissando
Technical Practice
There are two ways in which the screw of the bow can produce a glissando. 1) If used in the manner of a guitar slide. so that the screw itself determines the pitch. 2) If placed onto an already vibrating string then moved either up or down so that the bow screw produces an additional pitch which is subject to the glissando. (See video) Notes This is marginally more effective when using the metal screw of a French bow. German Bow's generally have a screw made of wood which produces a softer sound.
