Hammer On Multiphonics
Technical Practice
This is a percussive technique in which the multiphonic is generated by the hammering on of a pitch with excessive force (with either hand) onto the fingerboard. The left hand is most often used for such a technique as it is the hand most likely to have the required digital strength. When employing this technique, the bitone pitch is often of nearly equal volume to the regular pitch. The bitone pitch volume increases as the regular pitch ascends.
Dynamic Range: mf-ff
Difficulty: 2-3
Special Notes: Difficult to execute over fast passages. Extensive use is also physically demanding.
