Bitone Bowing

Technical Practice
The best results can be obtained by bowing behind the left hand very close to the nut. It is possible with this technique, to play simple legato phrases in a very high register (see Bitone Charts for corresponding pitches)

Notes
Fast phrases and other articulations such as staccato bowing are extremely difficult.
The physical nature of this technique is somewhat awkward and extensive usage results in undesirable rosin deposits on the fingered part of the string.
The sound is always sul ponticello in nature.

Dynamic Range: pp-mf
Difficulty: 2
