Bow Pizzicato

Technical Practice
A similar technique to battuto with hair in addition to the strike, the bow hair moves very slightly in the normal bowing direction which grabs the string and creates a pizzicato type sound. The area of bow hair used is very near the tip.

Notes
With practice, this technique can be effected with great speed over lines as well as single pitches. It is most effective on the upper strings or in the upper positions on each string as the technique works best when there is a small amount string length to activate.

Dynamic Range: pp-mf
Difficulty: 4
Special Notes: Most effective on upper strings.
