Col Legno Wood Buzz

Technical Practice
By placing the wood of the bow onto a vibrating string, a buzzing can be produced.
If used with little arm weight, the buzzing will occur until the sustain dies away, if arm weight is gradually increased then it can be used to gradually dampen the sound.

Notes
This can be combined with a left hand pizzicato for an instantaneous effect and is most effective when used on open strings.

Dynamic Range: pp-ff
Difficulty: 2
Notation
  • Verbal instruction with buzz symbol on note stem.
