Hammer On Artificial Harmonics
Technical Practice
Artificial harmonics can be achieved by percussively striking the string with a finger of the right hand at a node point which relates to a pitch fingered by the left hand. The string must be struck quickly and released. If the right hand finger remains on the string then it will deaden the pitch. Notes 1) Various node points as they relate to a fingered pitch can be used but the octave point produces the greatest volume and sustain. 2) The bow must be set down. 3) This technique is directly affected by string height and is most effective if the bass has a low action.
