Flick Pizzicato

Technical Practice
Any of the right hand fingers can be used to flick the string. The result is a percussive, pizzicato-type sound with a clearly defined pitch. The string is flicked from the opposite side to usual, i.e; the side of the string facing the body.

Notes
  • Various intensities of percussive attack caused by the fingernail can be effected by varying the speed with which the string is struck by the right hand fingers and by the muscular force exerted.
  • This technique can also be employed by the left hand but its velocity and application to more complex lines is limited.

Dynamic Range: pp-ff
Difficulty: 1-4
Special Notes: Upper dynamic range is slightly reduced.
Notation

Verbal instruction or graphic.
