Sul Tasto

Bowing near or over the fingerboard. Generally used to provide a much softer, ‘woodier’ and less defined sound that one would produce in normal bowing position. The pitch has much more fundamental and less of the overtone series.

Degrees can vary from poco sul tasto to molto.
