TRANSFORMATIVE MULTIPHONICS

So termed by Hakon Thelin, here are a few basic permutations of transformative multiphonics that can be applied to many of the multiphonic node points outlined below. Again, experimentation is vital to discover the best combination of finger and bow pressures and bowing positions.

  • Harmonic → harmonic + increase of pressure → multiphonic

  • Multiphonic → multiphonic + decrease of bow pressure → harmonic

  • Natural fingered pitch → pitch + decrease of finger pressure and increase of bow pressure → multiphonic

  • Multiphonic → gradual increase of finger pressure and decrease of bow pressure → natural pitch

  • Finger on multiphonic node point + light bow pressure → gradual increase of bow pressure → multiphonic

  • Multiphonic → gradual decrease of bow pressure (maintain finger pressure) → bow noise
